My parents were old school communists and activists. Modern atheists, of course.
Mom was of Swedish descent, from Jackson Heights; my dad Syrian Jewish from
Ocean Parkway in Brooklyn. When I was five we moved from Manhattan to Mill Valley,
California. From there Richmond, then El Cerrito in the East Bay.
When I was 15 we moved to Berkeley, across the Bay from San Francisco.
I have a brother and sister.
