I would just like to share with my readers the great news that a hitherto undiscovered photograph of Sri Tirumalai Krishnamacharya, the amazing yoga master and innovator, has been released today, October 31, 2011, by his estate. The photograph is believed to be from the late thirties, when Krishnamacharya was still teaching in relative obscurity at the Palace at Mysore. Those who were privileged to see the photo before its release remarked that he looks quite dashing in this shot.

…”quite dashing”….indeed!!!
I love it!!
Wow! This yoga master hasn’t changed a bit over the last 80 years! Must be somethin’ to that yoga. He’s actually levitating!
It is so heartwarming to see this, I agree! An inspiration to us all!
Hmmmmm . . . he seems to have changed from a Vadagalais (Northern) Sri Vaishnava, who have the yellow line in the middle of the thiruman – on the forehead, to a Tengalais (Southern) Sri Vaishnava who wear the red line in the middle. Nice try though
You should now proceed to taking Samasrayanam – initiation into Sri Vaishnavism!
Ha! Well I could say that in truth I thought I would leave one clue that it was a Halloween costuming and not the real deal…. but actually I’m a bit confused. Some of the photos, and the ones which I used as models, he does seemp to sport a red line, such as at http://www.yogakshemam.net/English/SriT.Krishnamacharya.html
In others it is as you say. Was he playing both sides of the fence???
I appreciate the nice try comment… not sure I’m ready for any initiations though!!!
Tengalais Thiruman!?! The plot really thickens into a confused mush . . . Anyway, he doesn’t have the brands of the chakra and conch on his shoulders which one receives during the initiation process . . . did I mention the brands?
And it’s true that one can find refs to him as a Vadagalais but not as Tengalais.
Traditionally Vadagalais wear the red Srichurnam before taking Bharanaysam, after taking they wear the yellow!
Bharanyasam / Prapatti is a sAdyOpAya – “means”. It is total surrendering at the lotus feet of Sriman Narayana:. It has five “angas” namely AanukUlya-sankalpam, praathikUlya-varjanam, Maha-visvaasam, gOptruvavaraNam and kaarpaNyam. It has to be done by the jivaatman who has realized aachinchanyatvam and ananya-gathithvam and wants the result without delay. \|/
